Years 9 and 10

2 Year Elective (Years 9 & 10)

Students study the Board of Studies Additional Music Course and expand on the areas covered in Years 7 and 8. Through the various contexts studied, students refine their ability to listen, perform and compose.

Topics covered include:

- Media Music

- Music Theatre

- Program Music (of the Romantic Period)

- Jazz

- Australian Music

- Other topics chosen by the individual student .


Students have regular access to the Music Technology Lab and become familiar with various software packages including Cubase, Finale and Band-in-a-Box.


Radio Presenter Course

This course will give you practical experience in planning, writing, presenting and broadcasting a radio program.

It will include:

- Care and use of the Studio

- Broadcasting laws and standards

- Simple technical trouble-shooting

- Interview techniques

- Scripting and writing for radio .


There will be an excursion to the local radio station and an opportunity to have some work experience at 2Bob FM or 2RE Radio Stations. This course will enable student to use the school radio station, "Semper Rock" FM.

No prior experience is necessary. This course would suit any student who would like a challenge while listening to music. It would also be of value to students looking for a hobby in Radio or wishing to pursue a career in media.


Music Music Music


This course will give you lots of practical experience. It will involve performing and listening to a lot of current songs from popular pieces. There is also the opportunity for students to compose their own music.

It will include working with:

- Keyboards in the Keyboard Laboratory

- Guitars

- Other instruments such as saxophone, flute, clarinet, drums etc.

- Vocal activities .


Technology in music is also an important area - with students gaining experience in our radio and recording studio.

You only need an interest in music to enjoy this course - you do not need to know how to play an instrument.


Jam Session


This course will give you lots of practical experience. It will involve performing and listening to current and popular pieces.

It will include working with:

- Keyboards in the Keyboard Laboratory

- Guitar

- Other instruments such as saxophone, flute, clarinet, drums etc.

- Vocal.

Technology in music is also an important area - with students gaining experience in our radio and recording studio.
